i menchuned a while back how i wuz a'gone do a hillbilly grammar sumday, n mr SemiPundit is heppin git thangs started with this apt obsurvayshun: 'Almost anything ending in "a" is often transformed to an "ie" sound. Often there is pressure to not sound too educated (eddicated), which can cause problems in being accepted by common people (suffice it to say that I don't look down on such people--I am of them and understand their mindset; I just watched a hell of a lot of TV on the two channels we got and read a lot of books from the tiny library in town)':

'And, "ing" endings are often truncated to "in" endings. Again, one might sound too educated and attempting to be "actin' all society-like".'

There is a range of literate commentary and of that which could use some work. Most of the commenters are younger people, and they often talk of drugs, alcohol, and violence, which still plague the region. One of the high-profile murder victims was a former sherriff who sat next to me every day through high school.
When I was growing up, people used to comment disdainfully on how there was a TV antenna on every shack. In later years, the same comments were made about satellite dishes. Now it's computers and the internet.
If a scraggly antenna tied to a tree could show me what lay beyond the hills, just think about the potential these kids have. I check in occasionally and have seen some of the regulars grow. Most of all, I've seen many of them want more for their community and their children.
